What does Backd offer?

Backd offers three products. A business line of credit from $50,000 to $1 million that you draw on as needed. A business term loan from $50,000 to $2 million repaid in fixed instalments. And a B2B net terms product that pays you up front while your customers pay Backd over time. All are unsecured with no collateral, and payments are collected automatically on a daily, weekly or semi monthly schedule. Loans are originated through its partner, FinWise Bank.

Who does Backd fund, and who do they decline?

Backd funds established US small businesses across most industries, and its published guidance is annual revenue above $100,000. Its $50,000 minimum means it is not built for very small needs; a business that wants $15,000 should look elsewhere. The B2B net terms product is for companies that sell to other businesses and want to offer 30 to 90 day terms without carrying the receivable.

Backd does not publish decline criteria. Expect the usual online lender tests on time in business, bank balances and credit, and note that daily or weekly automatic payments require consistent cash flow.

What does it typically cost and how fast is it?

Backd does not publish rates or fees; pricing is quoted per file. Online lines and term loans in this category are usually priced well above a bank, so compare the quoted cost with the typical ranges on our line of credit and term loan pages, and ask for the APR in writing. Funding speed is not published beyond a general claim of fast working capital. Backd publishes that it has approved more than $1 billion for over 10,000 businesses, as a company figure.

What will you need to apply?

Expect a short online application with three to six months of business bank statements, your EIN and formation documents, and owner ID. Larger term loans may need business tax returns and a recent profit and loss. For the net terms product, Backd will also want to understand your customers. Our document checklist has the complete list.

How does Backd compare with similar lenders?

Bluevine offers a line up to $250,000, a term loan up to $500,000 and SBA loans, with banking attached, so it suits a smaller business that wants everything in one place. Fundbox tops out at $250,000 with 12 or 24 week repayment and no early repayment fees, which fits very short gaps. Backd's edge is size: its $1 million line and $2 million term loan are well above both, so it is the pick when you need more than $250,000 without collateral.
