What does National Bank of Canada offer?
National Bank offers the standard bank toolkit. An operating line of credit covers the gap between paying suppliers and collecting receivables. Term loans and revolving term credit fund equipment, vehicles and real estate over longer periods. Bridge financing covers an expected inflow such as a grant or tax credit. Acquisition financing funds buying another company. Through the Canada Small Business Financing Program it can also lend with a government guarantee for equipment, leasehold improvements and real property.
Who does National Bank of Canada fund, and who do they decline?
National Bank funds established Canadian businesses that meet bank standards: a trading history, financial statements that support the payment, reasonable owner credit and, for larger loans, security. The profile does not publish minimums or decline criteria, and it notes that eligibility and terms are assessed by the bank on each file.
Like any bank, it will usually decline a business under two years old, one with recent losses or one without collateral for a term loan. If that is your situation, BDC is designed to take the projects banks will not, and our bank said no page covers other routes.
What does it typically cost and how fast is it?
National Bank does not publish rates or fees on the profile; pricing is quoted per file. Bank operating lines are typically priced at prime plus a spread, term loans at a fixed or floating rate, and Canada Small Business Financing Program loans within the program's rate and fee caps. These are usually the cheapest options available to a qualifying business; see our line of credit page for typical ranges. Expect a timeline of weeks and a review of your full financial picture.

Apply nowWhat will you need to apply?
Prepare two to three years of financial statements, business and personal tax returns, a current balance sheet with aged receivables and payables, a debt schedule, a project budget or purchase agreement, and corporate documents. For the government program, have invoices for the eligible costs. Our document checklist covers all of it.
How does National Bank of Canada compare with similar lenders?
RBC Royal Bank offers a similar menu with operating lines, a Canada Small Business Financing line of credit and a Canada Small Business Financing Loan, and is Canada's largest bank. BDC, the federal development bank, lends on growth projects and acquisitions with more flexible terms and lighter collateral, at a slightly higher cost. A common structure is an operating line at National Bank or RBC and a term loan from BDC.
How to apply
Apply once on this site and matching shows whether National Bank of Canada, or a similar lender, fits your file. You can also ask your AI assistant to collect your documents and apply for you through our MCP server. A profile in this directory is a market reference and does not by itself mean the lender is on our network for your file; matching shows the lenders available to you.
